Quick Start Guide
Here’s what badminton players have to say:
I love that I can play with my grandchildren at home. It's been great for working on skills I never truly had the chance to learn, which has really improved my backhands! A.M. Intermediate Badminton Player, 60+
HECS Balls are really fun! I like that I can play at home. Magnus, 11
The HECS Ball has been a huge part of my improvement as a player who didn't receive too much court time in the past. The power of both my backhand and forehand racket skills would not be where they are today without the HECS Ball! Derick H., High-Performance Athlete, 20
HECS Balls have changed the way I play badminton. Before, if I would take a break or miss practice, I would be very rusty when I got back. But now, I can practice at home very easily and safely. If you want to stay sharp at all times, I highly recommend getting some HECS Balls! Daniel R., 17
Frequently Asked Questions
Why three sizes?
Is one for beginners, intermediates and advanced players? Why are there three sizes?
All HECS Balls weigh about the same, but they behave differently as they fly through the air and bounce. Having 3 different options gives you the flexibility to practice at different speeds and intensities. As seen in the instructional videos, these 3 sizes can be used to progress a given exercise, so that you can keep challenging yourself as you get better.
The #1 – Bouncy, fast, and a bit unpredictable, this ball will keep you on your toes. For beginners, this one is perfect for learning to hit against a wall, since grip power isn’t needed to make it fly. For pros, this one will give you the most intense wall-practice to hone your reflexes. The harder you hit, the faster it moves.
The #2 – Balanced overall, this ball will give you a predictable bounce that’s easy to control. The #2 is a Jack-of-all-trades and provides a great starting point for beginners and advanced players alike.
The #3 – Not bouncy, it's slow and predictable. This ball is perfect for practicing harder shots against a wall. Even complete beginners can hit this a dozen times with minimal practice – great for building confidence.
It looks like a pompom. Why would I buy this?
Simply put, it’s not a pompom. A HECS Ball has patent-pending technology, giving you a ball that comes off the racket with a nice feel, and behaves exactly as you need it.
Will it damage my strings?
No. And the fibers won't come off and get stuck in your racket either.
Why did you invent these?
Necessity. As a badminton coach, I was told that our ENTIRE PROVINCE (in Canada) lacked adequate racket skills to compete with more badminton-focused Provinces… this came from a 3x Olympic Coach. I believed him, but I didn’t know what to do. Thirty prototypes and a dozen happy accidents later, the HECS Ball was born. It was useful immediately.
How durable are they?
They'll last many months, if not years with regular use. They are plenty durable for your practice needs and are NOT designed as a consumable.
Can’t I just use a regular shuttle against a wall or indoors?
Shuttles are NOT friendly to your walls. They're loud and break easily if you hit the feathers. They're not easy to use in confined spaces, and their erratic bounces aren't good for practice.
How do I take care of my HECS Balls?
HECS is about hand-eye coordination, not power, so hit in a controlled manner.
Are stray threads sticking out? These should be nipped with scissors. Resist the urge to just pull the whole thing out; they are there for a reason.
Hand wash and air dry.
